Ramon Martinez is a doctoral candidate in the Shapiro Lab in the Department of Pharmaceutical Sciences at the University of Maryland – School of Pharmacy. He earned his Bachelor of Science in Biochemistry & Molecular Biology and Psychology at the University of California, Santa Cruz. His dissertation work focuses on studying novel therapeutic agents that can be used to selectively regulate signaling pathways in the treatment of several types of cancer, including melanoma. These therapies may prove as a promising alternative to the standard therapeutics currently developed and used in the clinic. He currently serves as secretary for the UMB University Student Government Association, and was recently chosen to participate in the 2019 Capital Hill Day for the American Society for Biochemistry and Molecular Biology.
